Captain Neil Barnes serves as the counselor of Baqi Sailing Club. He is always energetic. His wife Lily is a very elegant and mild lady, however, she shows so much vigor when she’s sailing.
Neil and His Sailing Experience
Neil comes from the United Kingdom. It was the first time for him to start sailing sports when he was 25. When he was 46, he bought his own sailboat and has spent two years on it. In the first year, he renovated the boat and then he sailed to a lot of countries in one year.
The Story about Neil, Suzhou, and Baqi
Neil said, “At the very beginning, I had been in Shanghai. But actually, I don’t like Shanghai. By chance, my visit to Suzhou gave me a big surprise that Suzhou is such a wonderful city where there are green trees, clean waters and so on. So we decided to move to Suzhou. ”Due to their great passion for sailing, Neil and Lily started to find sailing clubs in Suzhou. After experiencing several clubs, they discovered Baqi Sailing Club. They found many likeminded sailing members who are so friendly with each other. Baqi differs from others because it aims at promoting professional sailing sports rather than just for amusement.

The Reason Why Neil Loves Sailing
Neil smiled and said, “That because sailing is so natural. When I sail on the ocean, there is no paths, no lines, no cars, etc. All that I can feel is water and freedom.”
According to Neil, the reason for why sailing sports is not widespread in China is because of cultural difference.
In western countries, sailing is popular with a large number of people. For them, sailing is a family sport. However, it is not common in China.Chinese parents have too many worries about children’s safety, so water sports are often undesirable. Differently, western parents are willing to encourage their children to try new things.Certainly, owing to geography difference, there are few proper waters to sail. But in many foreign countries especially in Australia, it is in good conditions for sailing.
What is the most important thing while sailing?
Neil pointed that team work is so critical that all of people should be cooperative with each other. Then it is to fully understand sailing rules because rules may be decisive for sailing. Of course, knowing and controlling boat well is the most basic thing.
A veteran skipper would not be surprised when asked about his feeling of sail.
Neil said, “When wind is very strong, I would be afraid like others. But I feel extremely comfortable when it is fine. I feel it is to achieve the state of unity of heaven and man.”
We are so curious about Lily’s attitude towards Neil’s sailing.
Lily has been firmly supporting him. She said, “At the very beginning, I have no interest in sailing at all. But Neil loves sailing and he needs a partner. So I accompany him to sail. As being familiar with this sport, I find it really interesting. I fell in love with sailing.”Let’s bless them!
